Important announcement to all World Blind Union members and funding partners
June 15, 2021 4:31 amThe World Blind Union (WBU) is sad to announce the early resignation of Dr Frederic K. Schroeder from the position of WBU President. Dr Schroeder, who was elected President of the WBU in 2016 during the last General Assembly, resigned on 13th June, 2021 due to personal circumstances that prevent him from carrying out his responsibilities in this role.
This decision has been accepted by the WBU’s Table Officers who will work to ensure a smooth and effective transition of his duties until the election of the new leadership in our upcoming General Assembly at the end of this month. During this interim period, the WBU’s First Vice President Fernando Riaño, will serve as acting President of the WBU. All other business operations and ongoing funded projects of the WBU managed by the secretariat will continue as usual.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr Schroeder for his dedication and contributions to the work of the WBU during his term as President. Fred is an internationally recognized leader who participated in the negotiations that led to the Marrakesh Treaty and was an active member of the WBU delegation during the development of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
