World Blind Union mourns the passing of blind children in a school fire in Uganda – calls for investigation
October 28, 2022 11:20 amIt has saddened us greatly at the WBU to hear the tragic news of the dormitory fire that killed children at a school for the blind in Uganda. We wish to send our heartfelt condolences during this very difficult time to the school, parents, and everyone affected.
We call upon authorities to thoroughly investigate what went on and to put in place measures to ensure a tragedy like this never occurs again.
At least 11 people, mostly children, perished in the fire that broke out in the night of Monday November 24, 2022 at the Salama School for the Blind in Mukono district’s Luga village in Eastern Uganda. This is according to media reports.
We will be reaching out to our partners and members in Uganda to see how we can assist further.
